Going To Court

E. Dress Appropriately

It is very important to show respect to the court. In modern society, there is great freedom to decide what to wear. In addition, Americans manner of dress in public has become quite liberal compared to other countries. But when you are going to court, be respectful. You, as a defendant, will be standing in front of the judge who will make judgments about you. Worn T-shirt and baggy jeans, for example, may not be the best fashion when you are going to court as a defendant. You do not necessarily have to wear a suit, but dress appropriately so that you can show your respect and sincerity to court. It does not have to be fancy or expensive. Any conservative look such as a clean shirt or blouse and a pair of conservative trousers would work.
